Asbestos Testing and Consulting
The Sarasota County Pollution Control Division has received delegation from the DEP to enforce the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulations on a local level. An asbestos survey is required as part of the Sarasota County commercial demolition permitting process and Sarasota County Ordinance No. 54-119.
Asbestos NESHAP regulations specify work practices for asbestos to be followed during demolition and renovation of all facilities, including but not limited to structures, installations, and buildings (excluding most residential buildings with four or fewer dwelling units). The regulations require a thorough inspection of a structure, or portion of the structure, prior to conducting a demolition or renovation.
Regardless of the presence of asbestos, the regulations also require the owner or operator of a demolition operation to provide a 10-Day Asbestos Notification Form to the appropriate delegated entity (in this case Sarasota County) before any demolition. Additionally, the same 10-day notification is required prior to a renovation of a facility where a regulated quantity of asbestos-containing material will be disturbed. A regulated quantity is 160 square feet, 260 linear feet, or 35 cubic feet.
AMRC has conducted extensive asbestos testing and consulting in both residential and commercial facilities within Sarasota County in compliance with the regulations and requirements of Sarasota County.
