Asbestos
AMRC's team of environmental professionals have successfully addressed many complex issues and projects. The following information, demonstrates several representative projects for the services we offer.- The School District of Lee County, Florida; Asbestos Surveys and Abatement Project Management. AMRC has performed numerous comprehensive asbestos surveys, developed specifications for abatements, reviewed and ranked subcontractor bids and provided oversight and management of asbestos abatement projects. Additionally, AMRC has trained District personnel in the Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Program and other Florida accredited courses.
- Edison Mall, Fort Myers, Florida; Asbestos Surveys and Abatement Project Management. AMRC has performed over 175 projects within the mall. An extensive asbestos program has been implemented, including the development of a simple to read, computerized color-coded drawing/matrix indicating surveyed areas, the location of asbestos containing materials, asbestos free areas and remediated sections.
- Altamonte Mall, Altamonte, Florida; Asbestos Surveys and Abatement Project Management. AMRC has performed over 55 projects. An extensive asbestos program has been implemented, including the development of a simple to read, computerized color-coded drawing/matrix indicating surveyed areas, the location of asbestos containing materials, asbestos free areas, and remediated sections.
- State of Florida Department of Transportation, District One, Bartow, FL.; Asbestos Surveys, Abatement Project Management and Air Monitoring. AMRC has performed numerous surveys of various buildings and residences for asbestos-containing materials throughout the District One area. AMRC developed abatement work plans, managed abatement activities, provided air monitoring, and produced close out reports for the required projects. AMRC has been providing these services in accordance with a FDOT continuing contract for over five years.
- US Sugar Corporation, Clewiston, Florida; AMRC conducted comprehensive asbestos surveys of two sugar refinery facilities. Following the survey work, consulting for the abatement of asbestos containing materials was performed. In addition AMRC also performed air monitoring during the decommissioning of the Bryant Plant and the renovation of the Clewiston location.
- Haley & Aldrich, Nassau, Bahamas; As part of the demolition and reconstruction of the Nassau Beach Resort, AMRC staff conducted asbestos surveys of the resort and support facilities. Other buildings that were surveyed included a power plant, police station, fitness building, clubhouse, grandstand, and laundry facility. As part of the surveys, AMRC developed an asbestos abatement work plan. Due to the lack of Bahamian regulations it was coordinated, through the client, with the The Common Wealth of the Bahamas (Ministry of Health and the Bahamas Environment Science and Technology Commission) to develop an acceptable scope of work.
Indoor Air Quality
- The School Board of Collier County, Florida: AMRC has been providing industrial hygiene and indoor air quality consulting services to the School Board of Collier County since 2003 and has a continuing contract with this client.
- Lee County Fort Myers Branch Library Building, Fort Myers, Florida: Indoor Air Quality Investigation. Microbial, chemical, particulate, and volatile organic compounds were investigated. In addition, AMRC provided in-depth recommendations and close out documentation.
- Lee County Bonita Springs Branch Library Building, Bonita Springs, Florida: Indoor Air Quality Investigation. Microbial, chemical, particulate, and volatile organic compounds were investigated. In addition, AMRC provided in-depth recommendations and close out documentation.
- JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts Stores, Georgia and Florida: Indoor Air Quality Investigations. Microbial, chemical, particulate, and volatile organic compounds, with an emphasis on formaldehyde contamination, were investigated and AMRC provided in-depth recommendations and documentation of the IAQ problems.
- Charlotte County Courthouse, Punta Gorda, Florida: Indoor Air Quality Investigation. AMRC performed an in-depth IAQ study of the four-story Courthouse Complex. Microbial, chemical, particulate, and volatile organic compounds were investigated. In addition, AMRC prepared remediation specifications, managed contractor activities and provided in-depth close out documentation.
Industrial Hygiene
- Chemical exposure and assessment in an automotive body and paint shop: This study was prompted by an OSHA complaint that was filed against the body shop. This was an auto body repair facility that utilized non-isocyanate containing paints. AMRC was retained to assess the exposure levels of the employees as well as the engineering controls that were in place. AMRC performed personnel exposure assessments as well as ventilation efficiency evaluations and recommendations.
- Non-ionizing and ionizing radiation exposure study at a medical facility: The reporting of several cases of cancer within a short period of time prompted concern for the work environment and potential exposures within this medical facility. AMRC was retained to conduct an epidemiological type study that involved assessment of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Other parameters of the study included potential chemical exposures.
- Chemical exposure and assessment at a large scale printing operation: AMRC conducted personnel exposure assessments of the facility for the various chemicals used in the printing process. AMRC also evaluated the ventilation system and made recommendations.
- Silica exposure of workers at a granite counter top manufacturing facility: AMRC conducted personnel sampling for silica exposure as well as evaluating the various engineering controls in place. Based on the results AMRC made several recommendations for reducing worker risks.
- Evaluation of lead exposure in an indoor gun range: AMRC conducted surface, area and personnel sampling within this facility to assess the exposure levels of employees and patrons of the gun range.
- Hazardous Chemical Training for a large community college system: AMRC developed a video training module for this community college system. This training module is used for all subcontractors to the community college system to fulfill 29 CFR 1910.1200 requirements.
- Hazardous Waste Recycle Company, Naples, Florida: After a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) inspection reported elevated levels of mercury were found on floor surfaces inside the recycling warehouse and office, AMRC's services were requested. AMRC delineated the extent of mercury contamination, developed a work plan for remediation and presented it to the FDEP for approval. Once the mercury was remediated clearance samples of the cleaned surfaces were taken and closeout documentation was prepared.
- Private Homeowner, Fort Myers, Florida: AMRC was requested to assist a private homeowner in sampling for silica dust. During a recent renovation at the home silica dust was created and distributed in various areas of the home. AMRC developed a controlled sampling protocol that simulated resuspension of the settled dust and collected air samples for silica dust.
- Health Care Facility, Fort Myers, Florida: Investigation of a chemical odor. A chemical odor was reported within a section of a health care facility that was adjacent to a ongoing building renovation. Using a portable organic vapor analyzer, it was discovered that the odor was from a mastic that was used under a temporary roof membrane.
Environmental Site Assessments
- Bank of America, South Florida: AMRC has performed numerous environmental site assessments for Bank of America sites throughout South Florida.
- Gerber Groves, Labelle, Florida: AMRC performed an environmental site assessment on three parcels of property, including the existing "old grove" as well as expansion groves and associated facilities.
- Bayshore High School, Bradenton, Florida: Environmental site assessment and tested for lead and soil contaminants.
- SunTrust Bank, South Florida: AMRC has performed numerous environmental site assessments for SunTrust Bank Sites throughout South Florida.
- School Board of Collier County, Naples, Florida: AMRC has performed various environmental site assessments and environmental permitting studies and project coordination in support of the School Board of Collier County.
- Lee County, Department of County Lands: AMRC is contracted with Lee County to perform Environmental Site Assessments and conduct other related services. AMRC has performed ASTM 1527-05 compliant surveys on multiple commercial sites as well as undeveloped parcels of property as part of their Conservation Lands Acquisition and Stewardship Advisory Program.
- Confidential Client: AMRC has performed ASTM 1527-05 compliant site assessments of multiple large parcels of land as part of the client's Due Diligence process. The properties had historical agricultural uses and associated contamination issues.
- Multiple Banking Institutions Throughout Florida: AMRC is routinely requested to perform ASTM 1527-05 compliant Environmental Site Assessments to satisfy portions of the Due Diligence process of a real estate transaction. As part of this service we periodically update our clients on the progress of the assessment as well as make them aware of potential problems that may exist. AMRC understands the importance of time when dealing in real estate and is able to meet or exceed our clients time sensitive needs, with regards to their closing schedule, for a typical Environmental Site Assessment.
Water Quality/Storage Tanks
- Sheriff's Department, Punta Gorda, Florida; Ground Water/Fuel Tank Assessment. Performed investigation after the fact of a leaking underground fuel tank and its effects pertaining to groundwater contamination on facility occupants.
- Sprint/United Telephone Company of Florida; Managed and coordinated the fuel tank program throughout the Southern Region.
- Streicher Enterprises, Inc., Boca Raton, Florida; AMRC has provided various environmental support activities for Streicher Enterprises. These have included the due diligence assessment of property prior to acquisition.
- State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice; AMRC managed the removal of underground storage tanks from several Department of Juvenile Justice facilities in the State of Florida. As part of the removal process AMRC performed contamination assessment reports and conducted close out reports at all of the locations. AMRC then managed the installation of aboveground storage tanks.
- The School Board of Collier County; Ethylene Glycol was released from an underground HVAC cooling line. The contaminated soil was excavated, placed into 55 gallon containers and disposed of as regulated waste. AMRC delineated the contaminated area and collected soil samples at the completion of the project.
- Kraft Construction Inc; AMRC managed the removal of underground storage tanks and associated distribution lines from the Naples Beach Hotel. Soil and groundwater sampling was conducted and a tank closure report was prepared for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
- The Weitz Company Incorporated; During the renovation of the Bentley Village in Naples, Florida the original underground storage tanks were removed. AMRC managed the removal of the tanks and associated distribution lines. Soil and groundwater sampling was conducted and a tank closure report was prepared for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
- St Johns County; Professional staff members of AMRC have experience with water quality testing of eight public beaches. The testing was part of the Florida's Healthy Beaches Program.
- St Johns County; Professional staff members of AMRC have experience with assessment and use of septic systems for commercial and residential applications.

- Tennessee Section, American Water Resource Association; Professional staff members of AMRC have experience with the isolation and use of motor oil degrading organisms.
- American Society for Microbiology; Professional staff members of AMRC have experience with isolation of mycobacteria from cooling towers and results of coculture with protozoa.
- American Society for Microbiology; Professional staff members of AMRC have experience with the isolation and use of hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms.
- 3M and Chevron; Professional staff members of AMRC participated in the development of RCRA action levels for soil and groundwater contaminants.
- U.S. EPA; Professional staff members of AMRC negotiated with the Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs) on the technical approach and methodology for assessing potential residential and occupational health risks from contaminated sediment exposures.
- Union Carbide North Landfill Superfund Site, Ohio; Professional staff members of AMRC utilizing the Superfund Accelerated Cleanup Model (SACM), wrote the risk assessment work plan and performed the risk assessment for an industrial waste landfill contaminated with PCBs and dioxins.
Lead Based Paint
- US Sugar Corporation, Clewiston, Florida; AMRC has provided facility wide lead based paint testing at two sugar processing plants. Based on the analysis of building material components AMRC made recommendations for precautions to take during the dismantling of the plants.
- City of Gainesville, Florida; Based on a continuing contract with the City of Gainesville, AMRC provides lead inspections and hazardous assessments. At the completion of lead paint abatement projects AMRC performs clearance testing.
- Nassau, Bahamas; AMRC staff conducted a survey for lead based paint on building components throughout a resort complex. Over fifty structures were sampled and recommendations for worker protection procedures for the pending demolition were provided.
- Taylor County, Florida; According to a contract with Taylor County, AMRC performed lead paint inspections, risk assessments and lead clearance testing.
- City of Lake City, Florida; According to a contract with the City of Lake City, AMRC performed lead paint inspections, risk assessments and lead clearance testing.
- Fort Myers Housing Authority; For the Fort Myers Housing Authority, AMRC performed lead paint inspections, risk assessments and lead clearance testing.
Methamphetamine Contamination
- Punta Gorda, Florida; Following a police raid of a methamphetamine laboratory that was located in a residential building remediation of the residence was necessary prior to it being re-occupied. AMRC delineated the extent of the methamphetamine contamination and developed a work plan for remediation. Once the methamphetamine contamination was remediated clearance samples of the residence were taken and closeout documentation was prepared.
- State of Florida, Florida; AMRC has performed testing for methamphetamine residue in residences where the drug was being consumed. The areas within the structure where methamphetamine residue was identified were located and a remediation work plan was developed.
